My name is Diederik Schouten. I am 21 years old. Originally from Alkmaar, I now live in Venhuizen.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. As a child, my father would calm me down by taking me for a ride in his car while listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Instead of children’s songs I’d tirelessly request Mötorhead. This obviously led to me having an unorthodox taste in music. Luckily, I’ve always managed to surround myself with kindred spirits. However, it wasn’t until high school that I really started to get into music.
I’d always known I wanted to play in a band. I originally wanted to be a drummer, but, like I often do, I mirrored my father and took up the bass guitar. I started just before high school started, and I was hoping to get into a band from day one. Within the first few weeks, I met Stef. We first bonded over our mutual love for Sum41, and later I learned he had just started playing guitar. Not much later we effectively designated Daan as our singer, and the first version of No Offense was formed. It took nine years and a few new names, but in the end, we joined forces with Tom, and now we’re stronger than ever.
For me, the music we make with No Offense is the ultimate manifestation of our friendship. There’s nothing like creating something, and I consider myself very lucky to be able to do so with my best friends. No Offense is the product of our mutual love for music and each other, and while this is cliché, I hope we can use our songs to spread the love.
